Many of the digital experiences we encounter today are designed for speed and constant engagement, leaving little room to slow down or connect meaningfully. Shared seeing invites people to unplug and reflect together on the aesthetic experiences that bring them energy and meaning.
Drawing on community arts examples from around the world, this experiential workshop explores how everyday aesthetic experiences, such as photography, film, music, and writing, can be intentionally designed to cultivate connection and well-being.
The session includes ongoing small-group conversations where participants try the approach together and explore how shared seeing could be used in their own communities. Participants will leave with a practical way to design experiences that foster connection and meaning, along with new connections to others in the field.
Roger Irwin, MAPP, is a positive psychology practitioner, coach, and creative consultant focused on making well-being education accessible for all, whether through the arts or strengths-based approaches. He is the Executive Director of SeeingHappy, a global nonprofit that uses photography and everyday aesthetics to support reflection, connection, and human flourishing across communities. Roger also serves as Director of High School Program at Breakthrough Miami, where he designs and facilitates year-round programming and a summer institute to advance educational equity for students across Miami. His work translates well-being research into participatory, real-world experiences that help individuals and communities slow down, connect, and make meaning together.
