Positive Economic Psychology is an emerging interdisciplinary scientific and applied discipline that integrates Positive Psychology and Economic Psychology. It is primarily concerned with researching and promoting financial wellbeing, focusing on the conditions and processes that can foster economic prosperity and optimal economic functioning in individuals, groups, and institutions (Hart & Hart, 2025).

Positive Psychology has a powerful role to play in promoting financial flourishing.  The field’s deep toolkit of assessments and interventions are applicable to the financial goals and challenges faced by clients, customers, patients – and the public at large.

This two-hour workshop will introduce the rationale for establishing Positive Economic Psychology as a distinct field of inquiry and practice, outlining its mission, guiding principles, core areas of research and applied work, and progress made to-date.

The workshop will then turn from defining the field to shaping its future. Designed as an interactive session it will invite participants to critically discuss the scope and priorities of Positive Economic Psychology, identify important research and applied questions, and consider the institutional and collaborative structures needed to support its development.

A central aim is to move from conceptual discussion towards collective action. Participants will be invited to contribute to several emerging initiatives.

The workshop seeks to build an international community around Positive Economic Psychology and to collaboratively identify concrete next steps for advancing this new discipline.
