This presentation explores Richmond Fellowship Queensland’s (RFQ) ongoing transformation from a traditional mental health organisation into a Centre of Excellence in Wellbeing Science by anchoring its work in the power of positive language and the deliberate cultivation of hope. Through a series of strategic partnerships with national and international researchers, RFQ embraced a future oriented, strengths based model to support the flourishing of its workforce, clients, and wider community.

Participants will learn how RFQ leaders applied intentional, affirming language to shift organisational culture, improve service outcomes, and inspire meaningful engagement at all levels of the organisation. This case study highlights how adopting a language of possibility, rooted in the principles of positive psychology, trauma informed care, and recovery oriented practice, helped reframe narratives around mental health from deficit to strength, and from surviving to thriving.

Drawing on empirical evidence and real world implementation examples, this session will examine how RFQ built systems and practices that centred hope as a clinical and organisational imperative. Attendees will explore how research practice partnerships supported the development of future focused initiatives, such as a joint professorial role, a new internal research and evaluation department, and a specialised performance and analytics team.

Designed for healthcare professionals, researchers and educators, this session offers practical tools and insights for building hope driven systems that support human flourishing. By highlighting RFQ’s transformation, it demonstrates how a shared language of growth and possibility can drive innovation, improve outcomes, and advance the future of mental health care.
